Everybody’s Right — Collider Project

THE RECORD

Many influences collide.
One musician.

Everybody’s Right grew out of years of writing, playing in bands and making recordings with whatever technology was available. By the time Christian began the album around 2022, decades of experimenting with home recording — together with the tools now available — meant he could finally take that process all the way from first idea to finished master.

The result is deliberately difficult to put in one box. Styles move because the songs demand it, but melody and a recognisable musical identity hold them together. Reflections on love and loss sit alongside politics, mortality and sharp observations about the world outside — at times a wake-up call questioning certainty and challenging complacency.

Christian wrote the songs, sang the lead and backing vocals, played the instruments, arranged the music and took the recordings from first idea through mixing and mastering.

A SONG WITH A HISTORY

Time
Wasting
Time

A bass line, a jam, three friends — and a performance that survived.

The song began while Christian was playing with Andy Clayton and Darren Pennington in Ragazzi. Christian had a bass line; Andy joined with a funky guitar part and Darren added a saxophone melody. Christian recorded the jam on his phone and, listening back later, wrote Time Wasting Time from it.

Andy was an exceptionally gifted guitarist. Each time they played the song he would jam the guitar solo, so Christian asked him to nail it down and really make it his own. Andy did exactly that, recording the finished solo in GarageBand.

After Andy passed away, Christian remembered that recording. Andy’s wife Gill found it, and the GarageBand performance Andy had made was incorporated into the final Collider Project track. Darren’s saxophone is not on the released recording, but the feel of that first jam — and the contribution of both musicians — remains part of the song’s history.

SONGS

Track by track.

Every song has its own reason to exist.

01

Everybody’s Right

An immediate, melodic opening with a sharp satirical edge. Its accessible musical character contrasts with a challenge to certainty, division and a world where opinions increasingly outweigh knowledge. The title becomes less reassuring the more closely you listen.

Feel

Spacious, atmospheric and quietly compelling, Feel explores the emotions that accompany us through life, and the joy that comes from allowing ourselves to experience them. Its engaging melody, gentle repetition and unhurried arrangement give the music room to breathe.

03

Keep the Peace

A melodic song that grows in scale and intensity as it follows life's difficulties and the strength we find in supporting others. Its expanding arrangement mirrors an emotional journey towards recognising strengths in someone they may not see themselves — and hoping those strengths endure, even when the reassuring voice is gone.

Time Wasting Time

An infectious, bass-driven groove carries a deceptively serious message: life is short, and we shouldn't waste the time we have. Born from a Ragazzi jam, the song features Andy Clayton's guitar solo, a wonderful performance that now carries a particularly poignant significance.

05

Empty Promises

An atmospheric ballad with an engaging melody, Empty Promises explores the painful realisation that a relationship cannot always be saved by another promise that things will change. The arrangement allows the emotion to build naturally, giving the song both musical warmth and a sense of resignation.

06

Pulse

A downtempo, jazz-influenced song that demonstrates the more organic side of Collider Project. Guitars, bass and organ create an understated musical backdrop, with their interplay providing much of the song's character, while the lyrics use metaphor to explore the people and forces shaping the direction of our world.

07

I Know I Know

An uplifting song whose musical energy reinforces its message of individuality and self-belief. Acknowledging disappointment and the pressures of other people's expectations, it ultimately encourages us to recognise what we have to offer the world and refuse to let others diminish our ambitions.

08

Crash Landed

An energetic, tuneful exploration of losing control as life begins to spiral downwards. The imagery used in the song captures the sensation of events gathering momentum, with the driving musical character reflecting both the excitement and uncertainty of the descent.

First To Know

Built around a ska-influenced rhythm, First To Know combines an infectious musical character with a seemingly straightforward story of searching, uncertainty and missed connections. But there's another perspective hidden within the lyrics. Once you discover whose point of view you're hearing, the whole song suddenly falls into place.

10

Belong

A song about feeling out of place in a world where everyone else seems to know the rules. Its memorable tune and moments of rhythmic insistence contrast with the awkward situations, flashes of humour and self-questioning in the lyric, capturing both the frustration and absurdity of trying to fit in.

11

Locked Door

A song about people who close their minds to the wider world, consumed by their own needs and unwilling to see beyond them. Its evolving arrangement carries a pointed observation about isolation and lost expression, with the locked door becoming a metaphor for the barriers people build around themselves.

12

Wait

An intimate, restrained song about confronting an unexpected and frightening turn in life. Its sparse musical setting gives particular weight to the words, allowing uncertainty, vulnerability and the determination to keep hoping to emerge without unnecessary embellishment. A quietly powerful conclusion to an album of considerable musical contrasts.
